CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE Energy Costs 03-09-10
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute
California’s gasoline and electricity costs are the 7th highest among all U.S. states and Washington D.C. according to the Energy Cost Index 2010 just released by the Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council, an advocacy group.
Last year, California was ranked and tied for 11th highest. (The Council does its ranking for lowest costs to highest, so in 2010, California ranks 45th, and in 2009, it tied for 41st.)
“One way or another, the cost of energy affects every consumer and small business in the country,” SBE Council’s index states. “For most businesses the two big energy questions are: What do you pay at the pump? What do you pay for electricity?”
States with the Highest-Cost for Energy:
1. Hawaii 2. Connecticut 3. Alaska 4. New York 5. Massachusetts 6. New Hampshire 7. California 8. New Jersey 9. Rhode Island and District of Columbia tied.
States with the Lowest-Costs for Energy:
1. Wyoming 2. Kentucky 3. Missouri and Oklahoma tied 5. Idaho
