CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE Employment 03-26-10
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
The state’s unemployment rate remained unchanged at 12.5 percent for February according to the Employment Development Department.
The number of unemployed Californians was 2,274,000 – up by 5,000 over the month And up by 406,000 from February 2009.
For the state five categories showed increases, adding jobs over the month including education and health services, mining and logging; trade; transportation and utilities; professional and business services; and other services. Six categories showed declines for the month; information, financial activities; construction; manufacturing, leisure, hospitality; and government.
Counties had over 20 percent unemployment including Colusa 27.6%; Imperial 27.1%; Merced 22.1%; Plumas 22.8%;San Benito 22.1%;Sutter22.4%;Trinity 22.3% and Yuba 20.3%.
Four counties have lower or equal unemployment rates to the national rate – Marin 8.4%; Mono 7.8%; San Mateo 9.4% and Orange 9.7%.
