CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE Super Bowl and California 02-04-10
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
While this year’s Super Bowl is in Texas and the two teams are from Green Bay and Pittsburgh, there are a variety of connections to California.
First there are a variety of players who are either from or played college football for California teams. Players for the Pittsburgh Steelers from California include back up quarter back Dennis Dixon who grew up in the Bay Area along with Troy Polamalu who played for USC. Players for the Green Bay Packers from California include their quarterback, Aaron Rodgers and Desmond Bishop who both played for California. Additionally there are Spencer Havner and Brandon Chillar who played for UCLA and Clay Matthews who played for USC.
Additionally, many people watch the commercials during the game. It is estimated this year that advertisers will spend about $2.8 million for each 30-second commercial in the Super Bowl. Many of the commercials have been produced in California by film studios, specifically Paramount, a VIACOM company for their upcoming release of Captain America.
No matter what team wins, enjoy, as this could be the last pro game for a while given the potential of an upcoming players strike that could put next year’s season in jeopardy.
I am Tim Johnson and this has been the California Business Minute.
