CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE International Trade 03-14-11
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
The Nation’s international trade deficit in goods and services increased to $46.3 billion in January 2011 up from $40.3 billion (revised) in December, as imports increased more than exports. Nationally, January exports of goods and services were $167.7 billion, (exports of goods were $120.5 billion) and (exports of services were $47.2 billion) this was the highest on record. January imports of goods and services were $214.1 billion and were the highest since August 2008 ($224.3 billion).
California’s exports were $11.7 billion for January of which $7.6 billion were in manufactured goods, $1.4 billion were for non-manufactured goods and $2.7 billion were re-exports. Imports into the state were $25.7 billion. Manufactured products accounted for $22.5 in manufactured goods and $3.1 billion in non-manufactured goods. California’s trade deficit increased by $300 million up from December 2010.
