CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE Impact of UC Davis 01-11-12
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
A new report illustrates that the University of Davis is a powerful economic engine for Northern California.
The University has an estimated 25,000 undergraduate students and 4,300 graduate students in addition to a School of Veterinary Medicine, School of Law, Graduate School of Management and School of Education. The Davis campus and its affiliated centers generated more than 47,000 jobs and $3.1 billion in goods and services in the six-county Capital region (El Dorado, Placer, Sacramento, Sutter, Yolo and Yuba counties).
These affiliated centers include the Bodega Marine Laboratory, Tahoe Environmental Research Center, Oakville Experimental Vineyard, San Francisco Working Professional MBA Program and a Veterinary Medicine Teaching & Research Center in Tulare.
In a corresponding study that examines the economic impact of the Sacramento facilities of UC Davis including the UC Davis Health System, which includes the UCD School of Medicine, UCD Medical Center, Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing and UCD Medical Group, an 800-member physician practice group with outpatient clinics throughout the Sacramento region, it illustrates more than 20,000 jobs and $3.4 billion in goods and services.
Combined the total direct and indirect impacts create 67,000 jobs and an annual $6.9 billion economic impact in Northern California.
The report was completed by the Sacramento Regional Research Institute.
I am Tim Johnson and this has been the California Business Minute.
