Winter Farmers Markets

Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.

California has dropped from its top spot for having the most cold-weather
farmers markets according to the US Dept. of Agriculture.

Of course cold-weather is not synonymous with California.  Nonetheless,
USDA identified there are 7,222 farmer’s markets.  About 17 percent open
during the winter months of November through March, but increasing more
markets are being opened during the winter months.

Since 2010, the USDA has recorded a 38 percent increase in the number of
winter farmer markets that operate bringing the total to 1,225 up from
886 in 2009.
