CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE Fattest Cities 06-09-10
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
Men’s Health magazine has released its review of the Fattest Cities in America. And this ranking bodes well for California. The methodology used the percentage of people who are overweight, the percentage with type 2 diabetes, the percentage who haven't left the couch in a month (CDC Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System); the money spent on junk food (Bureau of Labor Statistics); and finally, the number of people who ate fast food nine or more times in a month (Mediamark Research). The magazine ranks 100 metro areas.
So here is the list of the Top Ten Fattest Cities: Take note, Texas holds 5 of the Top Ten rankings.
1. Corpus Christie, TX 2. Charlestown, WV 3. El Paso, TX 4. Dallas, TX 5. Memphis, TN 6. Kansas City, MO 7. San Antonio, TX 8. Baltimore, MD 9. Houston, TX 10. Birmingham, AL
The Top Ten Leanest Cites:
1. San Francisco tied with Burlington VT. 2. Washington DC 3. Seattle, WA 4. Austin, TX 5. Albuquerque, NM 6. Portland, OR 7. Cincinnati, OH 8. Aurora, CO 9. Denver, CO 10. Oakland, CA
Riverside was #16; Fresno #30; Bakersfield #43; Los Angeles #46; Modesto #48; Sacramento #50; San Diego #62; Anaheim #78 and San Jose #80.
Don’t look at me, I am just ugly and having said that, I am Tim Johnson and this has been the California Business Minute.
