CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE Families Again 06-21-10
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
Last week, a Minute 06-17-09 presented a ranking by the website, Parenting.com on that illustrated ‘The Best Cities for Families.’ However, many of you wrote in and identified some confusion over the ranking.
The confusion come with the fact that there are two closely named websites – Parenting.com and Parents.com that both have ranked the Best Cities for Families.
To clarify the confusion, the following presents the rankings side by side.
Parenting.com Parents.com 1. Arlington, VA Denver, CO 2. Austin, TX Norfolk/Virginia Beach/Newport News, VA 3. Madison , WI Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN 4. Ann Arbor, MI Miami, FL 5. Lexington, KY Orlando, FL 6. Portland, OR Madison, WI 7. Spokane, WA Anaheim, CA 8. Scottsdale, AZ Rochester, NY 9. Omaha, NE Boston, MA 10. Raleigh, NC San Diego, CA
However, Forbes.com based upon the ranking of the 40 most populated MSA’s using Economic Policy Institute’s Basic Family Budget Calculator to determine what families spend on housing, child care and food and taxes provides yet another perspective on a ranking of the Best and Worst Cities for Families.
Forbes.com
Best Worst 1. San Jose, CA Virginia Beach, VA 2. Salt Lake City, UT Providence, RI 3. Baltimore, MD Las Vegas, NV 4. Detroit, MI San Diego, CA 5. San Francisco, CA Cleveland, OH 6. Seattle, WA Orlando, FL 7. Kansas City, MO San Antonio, TX 8. St. Louis, MO Los Angeles, CA 9. Austin, TX New Orleans, LA 10. Chicago, IL New York, NY
There appears to be a variety of discrepancies with these rankings. We will let you be the judge.
I am Tim Johnson and this has been the California Business Minute.
