CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE Most At Risk for a Disaster 05-20-11
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
According to Kiplinger’s magazine working in conjunction with ISO, a leading source of insurance risk information, they have identified a first of a kind ranking. Together the two have identified the ten states that have suffered the biggest property losses from disaster over the past decade and are considered to be the most at risk for a disaster.
The following identifies the top ten states most at risk of a disaster.
TOP 10 STATES MOST AT RISK OF A DISASTER 1. Louisiana 2. Florida 3. Texas 4. New York 5. Mississippi 6. Oklahoma 7. Alabama 8. California 9. Missouri 10. Ohio
We are not sure if “at risk” is appropriate as currently impacted. For example, Louisiana and Mississippi are currently suffering from the floods along the Mississippi River. Alabama just had a terrific tornado that left hundreds dead in Tuscaloosa. Texas has suffered from wildfires due to a draught. California recently suffered some minor damage from the tsunami caused by the earthquake in Japan. Additionally, the four largest state economies, California, Texas, New York and Florida are all on this list. Damage to all four during the same year could be a real set back to the nation’s economy given that they make up nearly 50 percent of the nation’s GDP.
I am Tim Johnson and this has been the California Business Minute.
