CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE Most Dangerous Cities 06-01-11
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
The FBI’s new crime data illustrates the violent crime has dropped 5.5% and property crime fell 2.8 percent in 2010. However to illustrate what crime means in the nation’s cities, the media organization, 24/7 Wall St. a Delaware- based financial news and opinion operation has release its ranking of the “10 Most Dangerous Cities in the Nation.”
AMERICA’S MOST DANGEROUS CITIES 1. Flint, MI 2. Detroit, MI 3. St. Louis, MO 4. New Haven, CT 5. Memphis, TN 6. Oakland, CA 7. Little Rock, AR 8. Baltimore, MA 9. Rockford, IL 10. Stockton, CA
Flint, Michigan had 22 violent crimes per 1,000 population and 53 murders. Second ranked Detroit had 18.9 violent crimes per 1,000 but had 310 murders in 2010. Oakland had 15.3 violent crimes, per 1,000 and 90 murders in 2010. Yet there is good news in that violent crimes dropped 5.5 percent from 2009-2010 for Oakland. Unfortunately, Oakland had the 10th highest rape and eighth highest murder rate and second highest robbery rate in the nation. Stockton had 13.8 violent crimes per 1,000 and 49 murders.
I am Tim Johnson and this has been the California Business Minute.
