Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
All jobs have some inherent risk. However, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics and the US Dept of Labor report that there are 5,840 work related fatalities in the latest report in 2006 in the work place with an average worker fatality rate at 4 deaths per 100,000.
The following ranks the deadliest jobs in the nation by deaths per 100,000 and then in parenthesis, the number of deaths in that category for 2006.
MOST DEADLY JOBS IN AMERICA 1. Fishing 147.2 (53 deaths) 2. Aircraft Pilots 90.4 (104 deaths) 3. Logging 84.6 (66 deaths) 4. Iron & Steel Workers 61 (36 deaths) 5. Garbage Collectors 40.7 (37 deaths) 6. Farmers 37.2 (292 deaths) 7. Electrical Pwr. Worker 34.9 (38 deaths) 8. Roofer 33.5 (81 deaths) 9. Truck Drivers 27.5 (957 death) 10. Misc Ag Worker 22.2(16.2)
