CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE Worst Cities 08-31-10
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
The online consumer finance website WalletPop has released its list of the 10 Worst Cities to Live.
Their methodology used a variety of criteria, including unemployment rates, health data, the number of foreclosures, crime statistics, climates and other unidentified measurements of misery.
Unfortunately for two California cities, El Centro and Los Angeles, they made the list. The following illustrates the rankings and a phrase summarizing the reason for the Ranking as identified by WalletPop except for the one for El Centro which is a personal observation.
Top Ten Worst Cities to Live
1. El Centro (Unfortunate Ranking) 2. Cleveland (Corrupt) 3. Detroit (High Crime) 4. Las Vegas (Housing Collapse, yet Coolest City) 5. Oklahoma City (Obese) 6. Los Angeles (Dirty) 7. Phoenix (Fragile Economy) 8. Newark (Dysfunctional) 9. Miami (General Malaise) 10. Memphis (Crime and Corruption)
Unfortunately, this ranking does did not take into account population size, which in the case of El Centro should have never been listed among the other cities which are 10 to 80 times larger.
I am Tim Johnson and this has been the California Business Minute.
