CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE Worst & Best for Jobs 08-23-11
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
A number of multiple sources have ranked the Best & Worst Cities to Find Jobs. The following identifies those from Monster.com, US News & World Report and Indeed.com.
Monster’s identifies the following cities as the “Hottest Cities in the Nation to find a Job.” #1 Washington D.C., #2 San Francisco, #3 Baltimore, #4 Minneapolis, #5 Cleveland, #6 Boston, #7 Seattle, #8 Orlando, #9 Pittsburgh and #10 Kansas City.
Meanwhile, the website Indeed.com has identified the following cities as the “Easiest Cities to find a Job,” include: #1 San Jose, Washington DC, #3 Baltimore, #4 San Francisco, #5 Seattle, #6 Boston, #7 Hartford, #7 Cleveland, #8 Charlotte, and #8 Austin.
On the flip side of the coin, Indeed.com identified the “Hardest Cities in the Nation to find a Job,” include: #1 New Orleans, #2 Buffalo, #3 Rochester, #4 Miami, #5 Louisville, #5 Riverside, #7 Los Angeles, #7 Virginia Beach, #9 Kansas City and #9 Pittsburg.
US News and World Report identifies that Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario #2, Las Vegas, #3 Sacramento-Roseville, #4 Los Angeles-Long Beach-Santa Ana, #4 Miami-Fort Lauderdale, #6 Detroit, #7 Providence, #8 Orlando, #9 Jacksonville, #10 Tampa Bay-St. Petersburg.
It appears that there are some contradictions as Pittsburg and Kansas City are identified as both Hot and Hardest Cities to find jobs. Miami got named on two lists as the hardest to find a job. But two California cities, Los Angeles and Riverside both get ranked in two rankings as the hardest to find a job. Lastly, San Francisco received high marks from two rankings for the hottest and easiest city to find a job.
I am Tim Johnson and this has been the California Business Minute.
