CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE Most Dangerous Jobs 08-30-11
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
Fisherman and individuals employed in the fishing industry are in an employment sector that is the most dangerous in the nation. However, as a nation, the workplace is getting after according to the Bureau of labor statistics Annual report on workplace fatalities.
Last year, there were 4,547 (revised upward) from 4340 died on the job last year.
The following 10 jobs call had fatal injuries rates at least 5 times greater than average and there are changes from last year’s list.
TEN MOST DANGEROUS JOBS IN THE NATION 1. Fisherman 2. Loggers 3. Aircraft Pilots 4. Farmers & Ranchers 5. Mining Machine Operators 6. Roofers 7. Sanitary Workers 8. Delivery Drivers 9. Industrial Machinery Instillation, Repair and Maintenance Workers 10. Law Enforcement Officers
Not on this year’s list is iron workers and construction laborers. Given the economy, maybe this is a sign of the time.
