CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE Labor Day 09-05-11
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute. Labor Day was first observed in 1894 after Congressed passed legislation and President Grover Cleveland signed it into law.
Today, unfortunately there are many unemployed and under employed and furloughed workers in America between the ages of 16 and 65 who are in the nation’s labor force. For those who are looking for work it may be hard to celebrate with the day off for which we commiserate, because included in the ranks of the unemployed are an estimated 2 million Californians that are unemployed.
An interesting fact from the U.S. Census Bureau is that there are 10.4 million self- employed workers in the nation and 5.7 million people work at home.
While it is hard to express celebrate the day, whether employed or not, try to enjoy the day.
I am Tim (looking for work) Johnson and this has been the California Business Minute.
