CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE Stimulus Impacts 11-03-09
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
California has benefited from federal stimulus efforts to the tune of $12.5 billion and the retention or creation of more than 100,000 jobs according to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.
The governor announced last week at a press conference with Vice President Biden at the White House. The Governor praised $7.1 billion in stabilization dollars that helped 62,000 teachers keep their jobs.
Nationwide, the stimulus has directly created or saved 640,000 jobs since February, Biden said. An additional estimated 400,000 jobs have come indirectly through payroll tax credits and other stimulus programs that have helped the economy. Biden said the jobs created thus far indicate only that the plan is on track toward its goal of saving or creating 3.5 million jobs.
California accounted for more than 17 percent of total created jobs with 110,185, according to the report.
Schwarzenegger echoed that, noting that California has been promised a total of $50 billion in the two-year program.
I am Tim Johnson and this has been the California Business Minute.
