CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE New Economies 12-06-10
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
California moves up a spot to 7th in the 2010 State New Economy Index as illustrated by the new rankings compiled by the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation and Kauffman Foundation that gauge how states are fairing in the innovation- and knowledge-based new economy.
The State New Economy Index uses 26 indicators to assess states’ fundamental capacity to successfully navigate the shoals of economic change. It measures the extent to which state economies are knowledge-based, globalized, entrepreneurial, IT-driven and innovation-based – in other words, to what degree state economies’ structures and operations match the ideal structure of the New Economy.
Massachusetts, Washington, Maryland, New Jersey, and Connecticut are the top five states at the forefront of the nation’s movement toward a global, innovation-based new economy, according to report.
In 2002 California was ranked 2. The state fell to 7th in 2007, then to 8th in 2008 but has jumped up again into a very tight pack with just a few percentages between the 3rd and 7th positions.
I am Tim Johnson and this has been the California Business Minute.
