CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE Undesirable Cities 11-08-11
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
City-data.com came up with a list of 20 cities that by the numbers are some of the most beaten-up economically undesirable cities in the nation.
Based upon the criterion used by City-data, a variety of items comprise an undesirable city.
These include being low on the arts, dining and entertainment along with public transit options. It also includes high crime, and obesity rates, taxes and cost of living. It also includes being heavily dependent on a single segment of an economy. It also includes poor schools and weather/climate and air quality. The following identifies the Top Twenty.
MOST UNDESIRABLE CITIES 1. Detroit, MI 2. Flint, MI 3. St. Louis, MO 4. Cleveland, OH 5. Birmingham, AL 6. Jackson, MS 7. Little Rock, AK 8. Stockton, CA 9. Dayton, OH 10. Memphis, TN 11. New Haven, CT 12. Baltimore, MO 13. Milwaukie, WI 14. Springfield, MA 15. Buffalo, NY 16. Fresno, CA 17. New Orleans, LA 18. Indianapolis, IN 19. Chattanooga, IN 20. Oakland, CA
Of interest, when compared to the “Most Miserable Cities in the Nation” (See 02-07-11 Minute) only Stockton and Fresno were on both lists. However, they were joined by Cleveland, Flint and Detroit.
I am Tim Johnson and this has been the California Business Minute.
