CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE California Ranked 11-15-11
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
California was ranked 20th overall in Site Selection magazine’s 2011 Top Business Climate rankings.
However, based on a variety of categories, the Golden State was beaten and bloodied in the individual categories. For example, California ranked 47th among the states in the number of new company relocations per million population and the state’s tax climate was ranked 49th and the state’s competitiveness ranks 37th. However California was ranked 11th overall in the category ranked by executives. Strange given that CEO magazine ranked the state dead last.
Texas ranks first on both halves of the ranking, beating out North Carolina, which topped the list in nine out of the last 10 years, Site Selection magazine reports. Business executives reported that the Lone Star State is "pro-business and entrepreneurial," "willingness to work with business" and "to fight OSHA, EPA and other useless regulations." The magazine says," Texas is the place to be for business and industry. Companies are flocking to the Lone Star State... 40% of the new U.S. jobs created since June 2009 were created in Texas."
However, in the 12 months ended August, 2011, although Texas was first creating 253,200 jobs in the nation, California was second with 171,300 jobs according to the publication.
Apparently, the Golden State is turning its economy and quickly and it just depends who the executives are that are surveyed.
