CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE V.C. 3rd Qtr. Results 12-22-11
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
Nationally, venture capital investments fell 12 percent in terms of dollars and 14 percent in terms of the numbers of deals compared to second quarter results according to the National Venture Capital Association.
Similarly for California, both dollars and deals completed mirror that of the activity across the nation. However, based upon trend lines of 4thQtr results from previous years, at least the total dollar investment activities should exceed 2010 totals. The Silicon Valley remains the largest region in the nation for Venture Capital investment and California continues its dominance in venture capital with over 50 percent of the activity and dollars invested being in California.
3RD QTR. 2011 $’s INVESTMENTS Silicon Valley $2.7 billion LA/Orange $ 401 million San Diego $ 207 million Sacramento/N. Cal $ 16 million Total $3.3 billion
3RD QTR. 2011 DEALS DONE Silicon Valley 273 LA/Orange 51 San Diego 21 Sacramento/N. Cal 1 Total 346
The numbers are provided by Moneytree Report from Pricewaterhousecoopers for the National Venture Capital Association.
I am Tim Johnson and this has been the California Business Minute.
