CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE Solano County 01-07-08
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
Centrally located to serve the expanding biosciences sector is how Michael Ammann, executive director of the Solano Economic Development Corporation representing Solano County sees the region.
Ammann points out that cities in the county are key players in biotech and foresees continued expansion. Ammann identifies that in northern California there are 900 companies in the biotech sector. Some 120 are publicly owned, the sector in northern California employs 90,000 and the average wage is $68,000.
Genetech, Alza and Novartis have major facilities in Vacaville. Benicia is home to Bio-Rad. Vallejo will soon see Siemens and Genetech will build a major research and development facilities in Dixon.
Ammann believes Solano county is a regional hub of opportunity and innovation built on growth and specifically in the life sciences.
I am Tim Johnson and this has been the California Business Minute.
