CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE Rural Tourism 02-06-08
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
The California Travel and Tourism Commission, CTTC has released a strategic plan for rural tourism.
Rural tourism is becoming increasingly important to California. The size and scope of rural tourism in the state is extensive. 48 out of the 58 counties are considered rural. These counties generate $27 billion in travel spending or 31 percent of the states total.
Rural tourism generates 357,400 about 39 percent of total employment. It also generates 31 percent of total tax receipts or $1.6 billion of the states $5.2 billion.
The CTTC has 6 strategies and an action plan to implement for each.
