CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE Productivity 02-08-08
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
In a new survey, of the nations 1,000 largest businesses, it appears that Tuesday is the most productive day of the week.
57 percent of the executives surveyed identified that Tuesday is the most productive day for their employees. Monday is the second most popular answer. However, only 12 percent of respondents ranked Monday as most productive compared to 26 percent in a similar survey from 2002. Apparently, Monday has now become the catch-up day after the weekend, and is now the day when many regularly scheduled meetings occur, which decrease the time available to complete tasks. Wednesday and Thursday were tied, mentioned by 11 percent. And only 3 percent of those surveyed thought their workers were the most productive on Friday. Weekends were not included in the survey. The results mirror previous surveys conducted in 2002, 1998 and 1987.
In the meantime, worker productivity in the U.S. grew more than forecasted in the fourth quarter. Over 2007, productivity increased 1.6%, up slightly from the 1.0% gain in 2006.
I am Tim Johnson and this has been the California Business Minute.
For further information: The survey was conducted by an independent research firm and paid for by Accountemps, a unit of Robert Half International of Menlo Park.
