California Business Minute™

Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.

The US Census Bureau has released lists on state performance by commodities and
economic activities from its 2002 Economic Census.

While obvious in some categories, California is a leader in dozens of diverse categories.

For example the state is the national leader in wine production.  The state has 669 establishments,
volume of wine produced at $8.2 billion, 87 percent of total national value employing 19,391
employees with an $844 million annual payroll.

The state also leads in the number of automobile driving schools with 308 establishments,
revenues of nearly $77 million, 10 percent of the total national receipts, 2092 employees with
an annual payroll of $28 million.
