CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE Feng Shui Redux for Golden Arches 03-07-08
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
Eating at McDonalds will never be the same. Apparently, the McDonald's restaurant in Hacienda Heights, east of Los Angeles has become the first in the nation to undergo a Feng Shui makeover in a bid to encourage customers to linger over their Big Macs and fries.
The chains Hacienda Heights unit boasts symmetrically-balanced seating in earthy tones, water features, exotic fauna as well as a large column in the entrance designed to block out bad spirits while keeping good ones inside.
McDonalds chose a Feng Shui design because it creates a soothing environment for its customers. McDonalds has recently been angling for more of a Starbucks feel, installing "linger" zones with soft furnishings instead of hard plastic seating, along with wireless internet, coffee bars and plasma televisions. The Hacienda Heights revamp includes three giant flat screen televisions as well as an elevated play area.
So, coming to your neighborhood in the near future will be the introduction of a more peaceful and tranquil Golden Arches soon to be known as a McCalming dining adventure.
I am Tim Johnson and this has been the California Business Minute.
