Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.

An educational park could be a big boost for downtown San Bernardino's fortunes.

At least that is the hope of California State University-San Bernardino, the San Bernardino
Community College District, the County Superintendent of Schools and the San Bernardino
City Unified School District.  Each are chipping in with the city's Economic Development
Agency to fund an $80,000 feasibility study that will examine how the area might benefit
the four educational institutions along with business.

The concept was first identified in a report last year by the Urban Land Institute, ULI. 

Mayor Pat Morris identified that the educational park, if feasible, would be linked to another
ULI recommendation, increased mass transit. It would be served by Omnitrans' planned Bus
Rapid Transit system. “We're happy to see the city and four educational institutions pool their
resources to study the feasibility of such an undertaking. The education park was one of the
recommendations in last year's Urban Land Institute report on reviving downtown. There has
not been a lot of visible movement on the ULI recommendations since last summer, so this
effort is welcome”.

The study is being completed by the Staubach Co. and should be completed later this year.
