CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE Digital Delay 02-05-09
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
The U.S. House of Representatives voted 264-158 to delay the switch from analog signals to digital by four months, to June 12. This coincides with action by the Senate and now awaits the signature by the president, who has stated he is in favor of the delay.
Lawmakers approved the bill over concerns that too many of their constituents dont have the necessary converters to view over-the-air signals.
The government has been handing out $40 coupons to go toward all or most of the cost of a converter box but the program ran out of money and has been putting late-comers on a waiting list in case Congress appropriates more money for the program.
Heres hoping that the Stimulus Package has money in it for more coupons.
I am Tim Johnson and this has been the California Business Minute.
