CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE Ag Expo 02-10-09
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
Agriculture is big business in California and again this week agriculture is showcased at the World Ag Expo in Tulare.
The World Ag Expo begins tomorrow for a three day run, and even with the current downturn in the economy, the Expos attendance is forecasted at over 100,000.
Started in 1968, the World Ag Expo is held the second week of February each year. The show which begins today is the world's largest agricultural exposition, with 2.6 million square feet of exhibit space, over 1,600 exhibitors, and more than 100,000 attendees.
The Expo will host companies and attendees from some 67 countries presenting information on services and products on everything from rice to row crops and horticulture along with animal production such as diary and beef cattle.
Expo officials say its possible that the annual farm show will again set attendance records, despite the recession. Last year attendees came not just from the Central Valley but also from 67 countries including the largest contingent from Australia.
In addition to the exhibitions, there are dozens of seminars on the business of agriculture. And to add to the flavor of the event, there is also an antique farm equipment display coupled with events such as tractor pulls.
I am Tim Johnson and this has been the California Business Minute.
