CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE Recruiting California 02-17-09
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
Colorado, through the Metro Denver Economic Development Corporation has launched a Valentines Day business recruitment effort in California.
The components of the recruitment campaign include: Starting the weekend of Feb. 14-15, ads will run in newspapers in Los Angeles, San Diego and San Jose, inviting California companies to expand to Colorado Valentine-style marketing pieces have been sent to senior executives at 500 California companies A plane with an 80-foot-long Colorado Loves CA banner flew over Los Angeles In addition there is a webpage set up to expand further details
Going forward, the Metro Denver EDC plans to further the CO loves CA campaign via direct marketing, pitches to journalists and visits to California companies, site selectors and venture capitalists.
In the meantime, Jack Keyser from the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corp., Jack Kyser is preparing to mail thousands of postcards to local business owners, offering the services of a "business ombudsman" to help them cut red tape or find trained workers. Nevada, Utah and Arizona have all attempted to charm California businesses into moving in, said Kyser.
Those states long for California's innovative and successful businesses, such as the high-tech industry, which involve high wages and many support positions, Kyser said. But it's California's unique way of thinking that created these companies in the first place -- a trait other states lack, Kyser said. "It's the attitude, especially in Southern California. You have a lot of talent and a whole array of industries. We're very open to new things," Kyser said. "A lot of people don't realize that's one of the keys to our survival."
I am Tim Johnson and this has been the California Business Minute.
