CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE Fremont 03-19-09
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
The City of Fremonts Economic Development Department presented a proposal to its city council for approval in the effort to help existing businesses and provide incentives to attract new businesses.
The package includes several components:
Reducing Development Impact Fees citywide by 10 percent until Dec. 31, 2011 by collecting 90 percent of the current fee
Create a package of specific Central Business District incentive measures, including reducing Development Impact Fees in the CBD by 25 percent until Dec. 31, 2011 by collecting 75 percent of the current fee
Collect development impact fees prior to final inspection or the granting of certificate of occupancy, rather than the current practice of collecting fees when issuing building permits
Exempt clean technology firms from business licensing taxes until Dec. 31, 2011
Increase the local business purchasing preference from 2.5 percent to 5 percent until Dec. 31, 2011
Consider participating in the Statewide Community Infrastructure Program in order to offer developers an alternative financing program to pay impact fees
Explore the possibility of creating a foreign trade zone
The City Council and Mayor asked for further analysis to strengthen the effort and requested staff to return with enhances with a revised staff report.
I am Tim Johnson and this has been the California Business Minute.
