CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE Employment 03-23-09
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
Californias unemployment rate increased from 10.1 to 10.5 percent in February according to data released by the California Employment Development.
The number of people unemployed in California last month is estimated at 1,950,000 up by 80,000 over January, and up by 824,000 compared with February of last year.
Out of all of the employment sectors, only Information illustrated any growth over the month.
Of key significance, 42 counties out of the 58 had double digit unemployment rates up from 40 counties in January and 31 from December. Only Marin, Mono and counties had a lower rate than the national average of 8.1 percent. Marin had the lowest unemployment rates at 6.8 percent followed by Mono County at 7.6 percent. Colusa County had the highest unemployment rate a 26.6 percent and Imperial County was right behind at 24.5.
