CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE Jobs for Teens 04-01-08
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
Teenagers hoping to find work during summer break should start looking as soon as possible. Almost half of the hourly hiring managers surveyed do not expect to hire new seasonal employees this summer.
The survey, commissioned by Virginia based SnagAJob.com, pinned partial blame on the slowing economy, with a third of employers saying their budgets wont support additional staff. More than half of the 1100 hiring managers contacted agreed with the statement: Apparently the hiring managers were concerned about todays youth not possessing the same work ethic as previous generations.
Sage advice provided through the respondents of the survey illustrate that those who do plan on summer hiring expect little more than a third of the jobs will go to new hires, with the remaining spots claimed by returning employees.
SnagAJobs CEO, Shawn Boyer advises teens to be proactive. "There will be jobs for the filling, but applicants should plan on hitting the Web or pavement early."
I am Tim Johnson and this has been the California Business Minute.
