California Business Minute™

Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.

Of the over 36 million residents of California, 15% or 4 to 5 million are
off-highway vehicle recreation enthusiasts.  With land becoming at a
premium to support the continued growth and the environmental requirement
so onerous in the state, it would seem unusual for a city to embark on an
economic development strategy in support of such an industry.

However, the small city of Marysville in northern California has done just that.
On Tuesday, April 1, Mayor Bill Harris and the City Council proclaimed the City
"Motocross City, USA". This unique proclamation (self proclaimed) positions the
city as the most openly motocross friendly city in the United States. The City
supports the operation and sustainability of two local motocross tracks, one within
and one adjacent to the City limits, and welcomes all riders, families, and motocross
businesses.

The City recognizes the positive financial impact of motocross on the local economy,
and wishes to ensure that this family-oriented outdoor activity remain viable in the City.
As a motocross-friendly City, it invites the motocross industry to explore this unique
area in which to live, to do business and conduct research and development on motocross
products.
