Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.

If you like strawberries, than California is the place for you. The Golden State is
blooming with the freckled fruit and community celebrations abound.

Strawberries rank seventh in crop value among commodities produced in California,
which account for 87 percent of the U.S. strawberry supply, 1.6 billion pounds grown
on over 34,000 acres as identified by the California Strawberry Commission.

More than 15 percent of the crop from the Golden State is shipped worldwide.
 
Watsonville-Salinas in the Monterey peninsula area grow the most followed by Oxnard
then Santa Maria region. They are followed by Orange, San Diego and San Joaquin
counties in succession.

And although the 25th Anniversary California Strawberry Festival in Oxnard was this last
weekend, there are smaller strawberry festivals across the state.
