CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE Pay Advantage - Veterans 06-17-08
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
In a new analysis from the Census Bureau, Exploring the Veteran-Non Veteran Earning Differential in the American Community Survey of 2005, veteran status appears to offer, specifically for women an earnings advantage.
Women veterans had higher salaries than non veterans in 2005, but they also worked more hours in a week and more weeks out of the year. Women veteran earned $32, 217 in 2005 compared with the $27, 272 for women civilians with no military experience.
Male veterans also illustrated increased wage earnings over their non veteran counterparts.
The importance of this analysis is that as part of the Census Bureaus reengineered 2010 Census, the data collected will be used to help federal officials determine where to distribute more than $300 billion to state and local governments.
I am Tim Johnson and this has been the California Business Minute.
