CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE CA Biotech 06-20-08
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
This week at the Biotechnology Industry Organization International Convention in San Diego, members from the TeamCalifornia delegation ensured to the rest of conferees the states seriousness regarding its dominate world position in biotechnology.
Our states rich tradition of innovation and our world-class universities and research institutions have made California both he biotech capital of America and the biotech capital of the world. The biotech future, much like Californias is one of unlimited potential and possibility. said Governor Schwarzenegger in a keynote speech before the convention.
In addition the BayBio, northern Californias life science association released a report, California Cures that examines the unique attributes required to maintain the oldest, largest and most productive life science cluster in the world.
According to the report the biotechnology companies in the state are on the verge of investing close to $50 billion over the next five years to manufacture 230 treatments in Phase III that will create 12,000 jobs per year.
