CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE Cities for Women’s Health 06-23-09
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
WomensHealth.com has released its list of the Top Ten Best and Worst Cities for Women. The rankings are based on health, life and fitness. The following illustrates both the Top Ten for the ‘Best’ followed by the ‘Worst’ and then rankings of California cities.
It appears in looking at the rankings for both men and women, that San Jose ranks the highest. San Jose promotes an active lifestyle for its city’s residents and visitors. For example, Guadalupe River Park and Gardens cuts a swath through downtown, providing jogging and biking trails that extend to the bay along with public tennis courts and some underrated wildlife and public art viewing. Downtown San Jose offers several indoor and outdoor fitness options. A number of fun 5k and 10k races are offered each year that begin and end downtown. The culmination of the running season is the Rock 'N' Roll Half Marathon, which attracts more than 10,000 runners. Several health clubs – including those inside the new high-rise developments themselves - allow residents to get their hearts pumping. And as the center of San Jose, people downtown are never far away from golf, swimming and other sports.
Best for Women
1. Salt Lake City, UT 2. San Francisco, CA 3. Seattle, WA 4. San Jose, CA 5. Denver, CO 6. Minneapolis, MN 7. Fargo, ND 8. Madison, WI 9. Manchester, NH 10. Aurora, CO

Unfortunately for Bakersfield, it ranks in both the ‘Top Ten’ Worst locations for both men and women. Among the rest of the Cities in the state, Fremont was ranked 14th, and shocking as it may seem, San Diego did not rank in the top ten. San Diego was 23rd followed by Anaheim 44th, Sacramento 60th, Los Angeles 69, Fresno 76th, Riverside 85th then Modesto and Bakersfield.
