CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE California Olympians 08-15-08
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
Californians comprise 32 percent of this years Olympic Team. In a Sports Illustrated magazine article it identified that based on hometowns of the athletes California, specifically since WWII has produced more Olympic athletes than any other state.
The colleges with the most team members (current students or alums) from the Golden State for this year are Stanford (31), UCLA (19), USC (19) and Cal (14).
Several notable Californians are Kobe Bryant from the LA Lakers who is on the Mens Redeem Basketball Team; Lisa Leslie on the Womans Basketball Team. The Williams sisters, Venus and Serena playing tennis along with a host of players on this years mens baseball, womens softball and mens water polo teams.
Other Californians to watch include Allison Felix, track and field, 200 meters;Dara Torres, the oldest swimmer in Olympic competition at age 41; Will Simpson equestrian - show jumping; Mike Day, BMX ; Jason Rodgers, fencing; Troy Dumais, diving; Shawn Estrada boxing and Kim Rhode shooting.
