CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE Most Dangerous 07-14-09
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
The Website, Neighborhood Scout, www.NeighborhoodScout.com a real estate resource for home buyers and real estate investment has developed and released its list of the 100 Most Dangerous Communities in the nation with populations over 25,000.
The following lists the Top Ten Most Dangerous Communties in the nation followed by those California communities that made the top 100. Of interest, California Business Minute research could not determine why Hot Springs, Arkansas, a small tourist town has a high crime rate specifically given that it shows up no where else on any other ranking. Additionally, Case Grande, while a small community south of Phoenix, unfortunately as identified on its website has a high crime rate - an interesting way to brand one’s community. Two of the communities, are gambling centers, Las Vegas and Atlantic New Jersey. St. Louis is also identified on other lists as having high crime. Homestead is home of a major military complex and Edinburg is a border community located at the far southern tip of Texas, just inland from South Padres Islands.
The Top Ten Most Dangerous Communities
1. Edinburg, TX 2. Hot Springs, AR 3. Casa Grande, AZ 4. University, FL 5. Las Vegas, NV 6. Florence, SC 7. St. Louis MO 8. Atlantic City, NJ 9. Bessemer, AL 10.Homestead, FL
California Cities in the Top One Hundred Most Dangerous Communities
43. Berkeley 71. Eureka 72. Stockton 82. Turlock 88. Palm Springs 97. Visalia
This is very hard to imagine that Berkeley is one of the top 100 most dangerous communities. It must be after the UC-Stanford game, otherwise, it is pretty mellow.
This list differs significantly from the list produced by Forbes.com; see 04-30-09 Minute and even more from the publishing company, Morgan Quitno which only has Compton in the Most Dangerous category.
I am Tim Johnson and this has been the California Business Minute.
