Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that 15 states plus the District of Columbia
now have double digit unemployment.
STATES WITH DOUBLE DIGIT UNEMPLOYMENT(U-3)
1. Michigan 15.2%
2. Rhode Island 12.4%
3. Oregon 12.2%
4. South Carolina 12.1%
5. Nevada 12.0%
6. California 11.6%
7. Ohio 11.1%
8. North Carolina 11.0%
9. Washington DC & Kentucky 10.9%
10. Tennessee 10.8%
11. Indiana 10.7%
12. Florida 10.6%
13. Illinois
14. Alabama & Georgia 10.1%
Compared to U6 unemployment survey Oregon ranks highest at 23% followed by Rhode Island
and Michigan at 22% followed by South Carolina, and California at 20% and Arizona and
Tennessee at 19 %
The states with the lowest unemployment rates U3 are: North Dakota 4.2 %, Nebraska, 5%,
South Dakota 5.1%, Utah 5.0% and Wyoming at 5.9%.
