CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE Top Utilities 09-09-09
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
Site Selection magazine released its list of the Top Utilities in Economic Development in the Nation.
The designation is based on 2008 performance in four categories: Capital investment; job creation; capital investment per capita; and jobs per 10,000 population. It also takes into account responses from site selection consultants and corporate customers, and the utilities’ investment in new generation, transmission and renewable energy projects.
The following lists the utilities by alphabetical order
• Alabama Power Company, Birmingham, AL • American Electric Power, Columbus, OH • Duke Energy, split personality, Plainfield, IN and Charlotte, NC • Entergy Corporation, New Orleans • First Energy, Akron, Ohio • Georgia Power, Atlanta, GA • National Grid, Syracuse, NY • Progress Energy, Raleigh, NC • Tennessee Valley Authority, Knoxville, TN • Xcel Energy, Minneapolis, MN
Honorable Mention: Ameren Corp, St. Louis; Center Point Energy, Houston, TX; Hoosier Energy, Bloomington IN; Mississippi Power, Gulfport, MI; Nebraska Public Power District, Columbus, NE; Northeast Utilities, Hartford, CN; Omaha Public Power District, Omaha, NB; PPL, Allentown, PA; PSE&G, Newark, NJ; South Carolina Power Team, Columbia, SC.
Apparently, no utility in California or even west of the Rockies is recognized and justified as a top utility.
I am Tim Johnson and this has been the California Business Minute.
