Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.

California Congressional representative, Wally Herger, Republican and Wisconsin’s
representative, Ron Kind, Democrat, both on the powerful House Ways and Means
Committee are co-sponsoring H.R 3660 a bill to eliminate a tax that the self-employed
pay on their health insurance – a current tax Herger and Kind believe places a major financial
burden on the backs of millions of small and micro business owners.

Congressman Herger identifies that there are 47 million uninsured in the nation and over 3
million self employed in the state that would benefit from this action.

H.R. 3660 the Equity for our Nation’s Self Employed Act would amend the Internal Revenue
Code to allow the self-employed taxpayers to fully deduct their health care premiums for the
purpose of both income and self employment tax.

The bill has received strong praise from the National Association for the Self Employed and
the National Small Business Association.
