CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE California Re-Adventured 10-19-07
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
After just six years in operation, Disney is planning a massive overhaul to its California Adventures theme park. The park which is located adjacent to Disneyland was to act as a catalyst to increase patronage by elongating the tourist stay.
Apparently, Disney is disappointed in the performance of the park. Thus, the makeover of the park is designed to increase the lagging attendance based upon customers comments that it cost nearly as much to go to the California Adventure as it does Disneyland, which has many more rides and attractions.
In 2005, Disneyland drew 14.5 million visitors, an 8.5 percent increase, while the California Adventure drew only 5.8 million a 3.6 percent increase.
Unofficial estimates project that Disney will spend over $1 billion in the makeover, more than it did to build the theme park six years ago.
