CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE September Employment 10-22-07
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
Although the state saw an increase of 9,300 jobs, the unemployment rate increased to 5.6 percent up from August at 5.5 and up from 4.8 percent from September 06. Septembers results were far less than the 21,300 jobs created in August.
Eight categories (natural resources and mining; manufacturing; trade, transportation and utilities; information; educational and health services; leisure and hospitality; other services; and government) added jobs over the month, gaining 18,400 jobs. Information showed the largest gain, up by 7,900 jobs.
Three categories (construction; financial activities; and professional and business services) reported job declines this month, down 9,100 jobs. Construction posted the largest decline over the month, down by 5,000 jobs.
Marin County had the lowest unemployment rate at 3.8 percent and Imperial had the highest at 20.8 percent. The Bay area counties of Alameda, San Francisco, and San Mateo had stable numbers month over month. Increases were seen in northern California and Central Valley counties.
