Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.

People from outside the state are always curious about California’s economy
and how it differs from others.  The following provides some insight:

Under Socialism: You have 2 cows, but the state takes one and gives it to someone else

Under Communism:  You have 2 cows, but the state takes both of them and gives you the milk

Under Fascism: You have 2 cows, but the state takes both and sells you the milk 

Under Capitalism:  You have 2 cows; you sell one and buy a bull

In California:  You have 2 cows; you create high priced value added products such as gourmet
cheeses and ice cream; then refinance to capitalize the growth of a web-based business (Happy
Cows dot com) to sell your products, then sell off the dairy and the processing facilities to acquire
capital to buy shelf space at grocery stores while retaining the rights to the brand and reduce costs
by utilizing secondary processors; then you sell off to a holding company taking the proceeds to
write a book about your experience that becomes a New York ‘Best Seller’ and you become a
business celebrity appearing on television, radio and giving presentations at ‘rubber chicken’
luncheons before you launch your next venture.
