Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.

The United State Air Force is formulating a new command entitled the Cyber Command
The purpose of the new unit is in response to the management and defense of cyber
warfare, electronic warfare and protection of critical national infrastructure networks
by the Air Force in concert with the protection of the homeland.

The Cyber Command as it ‘Stands up’ is on an interim basis headquartered at Barksdale
A.F.B. in Louisiana.  But the competition for its location is open and is fierce because
of the hundreds of new jobs and the positive economic impacts it will have on local economies. 

Communities have begun their efforts to attract the Command. Omaha, Nebraska with Offutt AFB;
Shreveport, Louisiana with Barksdale AFB; San Antonio, Texas with Lackland AFB; Colorado
Springs, Colorado with the Space Command and California’s Beale AFB are just some of the
communities that want the new command. 

Californians have circled the wagons and are pushing for Beale Air Force Base
north of Sacramento, east of Marysville.  Beale is home to U-2 and Global Hawk spy planes.
The decision is to be made before the end of the year.
