Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute. California Employee Confidence Index increased 1.2 points to 58.6 in October, according to the latest Spherion Employment Report. The recent survey of California workers, conducted by Harris Interactive on behalf of Spherion Corporation, reveals that more workers are confident in their ability to find a new job and more workers are likely to look for a new job. Two-thirds of workers are positive about their job prospects, with 66 percent reporting that they are confident in their ability to find a new job, an increase of ten percentage points from September. -- Forty percent of workers are likely to look for a new job in the next twelve months, a seven-percentage-point increase from the previous month.
A quarter (25%) of employees surveyed believes that more jobs are available, a decrease of four percentage points from September. Spherion validates the upward increase by a recent pick up in manufacturing in Southern California, increased positions in accounting and finance, particularly in San Francisco and some ramping up in hiring for seasonal work, especially for retail and customer service positions across the state.
