CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE CA Startups 12-14-07
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
The study, The 2007 State New Economy Index, released earlier in the year illustrates how states are adapting to an evolving economy. Massachusetts, New Jersey, Maryland, Washington and California top the list of states that are successfully adapting to an increasingly global, entrepreneurial and innovation- based new economy.
Further validating Californias entrepreneurial spirit is an analysis by the firm BizMiner, which collects data on 18 million firms, including startups and branch facilities and then provides annual rankings in thirteen industries.
This analysis has identified that California ranks first in startups in eight categories: Biosciences, Manufacturing, Health Services, High Tech Manufacturing, Medical Device Manufacturers, Telecom and Plastics/Chemicals.
California ranked first in startups, but lower in new branch growth in three categories: Pharmaceuticals, Transportation and Automotive OEMs. California ranked second in startups for Agribusiness/Food Processing and Auto Suppliers.
I am Tim Johnson and this has been the California Business Minute.
The 2007 State New Economy Index, is provided by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation and the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF).
