Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.

San Jose’s Mayor Chuck Reed announced San Jose’s new ‘Green Vision’
and the plans and metrics to change the direction of the city.

The 10 point Green Vision calls for a variety of actions to create a cleaner and
sustainable San Jose within 15 years. For example, some of the actions call for the following:

 25,000 new jobs in the new ’clean-tech’ industries.
 Reduce electric energy consumption by 50 percent over the next 15 years
 Complete reuse of wastewater (100 million gallons a day)for beneficial purposes
 Acquire all power used by city from renewable sources
 Build or retrofit 50 million sq.ft. of building space of/to green buildings
 All landfill waste to be diverted and should be converted to energy
 Ensure that 100 percent of city fleet operates on alternative fuels
 Planting 100,000 trees
 Creating over 60 miles of nature trails

While reactions were mixed to the plan, it places the San Jose region and the Silicon Valley in the
forefront again of yet another innovation.
