California Business Minute™

Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.

A recent report completed for Nevada County amplified the need of refocusing
their economic development strategy and resources of economic groups in the
county.

The report recommends that the focus of attention be on the attraction of business
and industry.  In addition the findings identify the need to focus on leadership and
funding in support of a program.

In addition to these recommendations, the report identified that both the county and
the Nevada County Economic Resource Council lack business attraction experience;
no branding or marketing effort exists; inadequate local employment raining programs
are in place at Sierra College and affordable housing remains a problem.
 
The County Supervisors are directing that the recommendations be implemented immediately:

-Attract and retain businesses that pay higher than average wages
-Create a marketing/branding effort
-Increase spending on economic development
-Improve the effectiveness of the county’s workforce training programs
